Reviews and Ratings

Lori Kilmartin WSET3 - WSET3 Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

I hate to confess it but if I was buying a wine just for its label - this is one that would be in my cart! I have a fondness for horses - and also full bodied, fruit forward and balanced big reds - so this wine fit the bill on both counts! Lots of black currant and blackberry fruit on the nose and the palate. Smoke and leather aromas with caramel cocoa undertones and some typical peppery notes on the finish. This would be great paired with bbq'd ribs! Tasted November 9, 2016.
Pamela Chiles rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Dark purple-red, dark berries, plum, burnt caramel, leather with velvety tannins and a nice seam of acidity keep this dark horse interesting. Quite enjoyable.
Gerhard Swart, winemaker, has produced the 2013 vintage of Dark Horse Shiraz which is a blend of Shiraz grapes from three vineyards that have been comprising the wine since the 1990s. - Community Wine Reviews
