Natalie's Score: 90/100

This southern Italian red wine from the island of Sicily is a blend of Nero d'Avola and Syrah grapes. This IGT wine's label is emblazoned with the Rose Window, a precious gothic jewel that stands out on the facade of the Santagostino Monastery in Trapani. The monastery was given by King Federico III of Aragona in the fourteenth century to the Augustinian fathers who were then masters of fine winemaking. The red colour represents a true and renewed synthesis of their doctrine. Juicy, round and supple with mocha notes on the nose and palate from oak aging. Full-bodied and smooth with dark chocolate flavours. Pair this juicy red wine with grilled pork chops.

Nero D'avola Syrah food pairings: mushroom risotto, duck comfit, fricassee rabbit.

Reviews and Ratings

Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Aromas and flavours are alluring, showing ripe plum, cherry, smoke, and spice. This wine is bone dry and medium bodied with sky high and delicious acidity, medium tannins, and an overall clean balanced mouthfeel. Great bargain! Pair with beef chili. @sommsosa | bespoketastings.ca
