A lip-smacking, juicy Spanish red wine made from Tempranillo grapes whose vines are old and gnarly and planted in calcareous clay soils with scattered stones on top close to the village of Las Mesas in the La Mancha region. Lots of dark fruit flavours ad dark spice. pair with grilled lamb.

Food pairings: roast veal, pork cutlets, grilled sirloin steak.

Reviews and Ratings

Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Colour wise, this wine has purple hues. It has the dark berry aromas of blueberry, blackberry and black current. It also has aromas of red licorice with a hint of wet wood and of mint. This is a full bodied wine that needs food. Flavour wise, we have sun-ripe blackberries as well as violet notes. The tannins are chewy and the flavours have good length on the palate.

Would pair nicely with lamb chops, braised beef, or with game meat.

Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

The Volver 2014 single vineyard comes from a parcel of vines planted in the late 1950s. This is an outstanding wine - the nose is elegant and refined - notes of tobacco, oak, licorice and blackcurrants. Full bodied and showing luscious flavors of cassis and blackberry.
Finca Las Cruces Volver (2014) is a single-vineyard 100% Tempranillo aged 15 months in oak and bottled unfiltered. Not for the faint of palate. Grapevines for this wine were planted in 1957. The wine is robust with blackberries, cigar box, tobacco leaf and cake spice on the nose. Drink now or hold for three years. - Community Wine Reviews
