Reviews and Ratings

Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

A Full-bodied Red with plum and blackberry aromas followed by cedar, undergrowth, sage, and truffle.

On the palate, the tannins are moderate but well integrated and the acidity is fresh. Flavours of tart plum with subtle cedar notes. Perfect wine for an herbed Roast or try with a steak smothered in a mushroom sauce. Delicious wine!

Tasted at the Pure Discovery New Zealand Wine event in Ottawa May 2019.
Mary Anne van Gaal rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Yummmm. This Syrah is made with grapes grown in the gravelly soil of Hawkes Bay. This location influences the grapes by absorbing the suns heat into the rocks during the day and releasing this heat to the vines at night. It’s a generous jammy wine with white pepper and lots of tannins. It would be great paired with spicy barbecued pork. Tasted May 9, 2019 at New Zealand’s Pure Discovery event.
Paula Bernardino rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

I attended the Pure Discovery 2019 event featuring wines from New Zealand. At the Toronto event May 8, 2019 I focused on New Zealand’s reds, which included mainly Pinot Noir, Merlot and Syrah.

I tried the Reserve Syrah from Villa Maria Estate, their high end wine. Deep red colour with aromas and flavours of red fruits, and a sweet acidity finish.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
