Reviews and Ratings

Drink Wine and Giggle Gals rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

The Drink Wine Giggle Gals knew they had hit the fringes of the liquor store when the cashier remarked "I haven't seen this one before!". "That's because it's sherry" we replied, although you'll have to squint at the reverse label to see the word spelled out. Dry and very nutty, the Drink Wine and Giggle Gals paired El Maestro with pistachios. Lynne imagined that her mouth had suddenly become the Boar's Head Tavern and El Maestro was Javier Bardem. Julie had visions of consommé and being on clear fluids as a child with a stomach ailment. Deb tasted sour dough bread. Overall, the Drink Wine and Giggle Gals agreed that El Maestro is a manly drink and sherry is NOT the granny pantie of alcoholic beverages. It really is the commando and should be called jerez.
Producers in Jerez, home of Sherry and situated on Spain’s southern coast, craft their famed libation in styles ranging from bone-dry to sweet. Fino is made in a light, dry style. This wine’s amplitude builds on a creamy texture, bathed in nut and salted almond flavors. The prick of acidity, as if it had been recently sharpened, borders the fruit with freshness. Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
