Reviews and Ratings

Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Plum aromas, red field berries, and a meaty quality on the nose along with violet, sweet spice, tobacco, and hints of menthol.

I was wowed on the palate by the perfectly balanced structure and harmony of the wine. It is full bodied while having fresh tartness and lovely flavours of dark fruit and plums, cedar, cinnamon, and a sharp espresso finish. Excellent value!!!

Pair with roast beef or braised meat.

Tasted at the Argentine Special Tasting Evening in Ottawa June 2019.
Donna Hargrove rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Delicious and full bodied, this Malbec was the perfect blend of fruit and leather. Medium red in the glass, with fruit, spice and slight tobacco aromas. The same ripe fruit and smoky leather and tobacco flavours follow. Smooth finish with light tannins. This was my favourite wine at the special tasting hosted by the Argentinian ambassador, where it paired extremely well with Argentinian beef and hard ripened Sardo cheese.

Tasted: on a perfect summer evening in June 2019
Jenny Ratcliffe-Wright CWM rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Outstanding value for a wine that shows the true typicity of the Malbec grape. Succulent and juicy on the palate, smoother than a silk stocking. Squashed blueberries oozing out of the glass with violet and dried herb. The classic hint of meatiness. There is a delicate power to this wine. The 12 months of French oak detail is certainly present but does not overpower the cocoa finish. Try it with grilled rib eye with a blue cheese and rocket crust
L.J. Palmer WSET 3 rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Wine is medium ruby in colour with a purple rim, dry, full bodied, medium acidity and medium plus tannin and a medium intensity nose. Aromas of plum, dark fruit, rose and almost pot pourri with a slight earthy note. Smooth and silky mouthfeel, tasting of cedar and dark fruit with a medium finish.
Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

From the El Esteco winery, located in the Calchaqui Valley of Chile, The Don David Reserve Malbec 2017 shows the talent and expertise it takes to create such delightful wine. Lovely flavors of black cherry, grape jam, clay pot, sweet tobacco and oak will charm any Malbec wine lover. Pair with aged cheese or meat. Enjoy! Tasted at the Argentina wine tasting June 2019.
