Natalie's Score: 92/100

A full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with wine grapes sourced from the Calchaquí Valley and produced by the El Esteco winery team. Love the sweet red plum, blackberry, violets and cracked pepper aromas on the nose. Dry with ripe dark fruit, cherry and dried herbal and grassy flavours on the palate. Tannins are fine. Enjoy now and for the next five years with grilled sirloin steaks.

Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: roast duck, barbeque pork ribs, slow-braised veal shanks in red wine sauce.

Reviews and Ratings

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Aromas of blackberry, oak, spice, and leather. Full bodied with some young, soft tannins, bright acidity, and lots of ripe berry on the palate, with leather and spicy notes on the finish. Enjoy with marinated beef kebabs.
Olivier de Maisonneuve rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Wow, this wine has a lot to say in the glass!
Both the colour and the nose are a bit more intense than the Don David Reserve.
You get a good expression of the varietal on the nose. There is a nice combination of leafyness (i hope it's a word!) and eathy tones.
The mouthfeel is quite velvety. It is tannic but with smooth tannins. Dark fruits jam and oaky features are also part of the charm of this wine. Long finale part tannins, part
freshness, and a hint of paprika. Begs for grilled meats...or portobello burgers.
Make sure to let it open in your glass or in a carafe for a good 30-45 minutes, or try to forget it a couple of years in your cellar :)
From the Calchaquí Valley El Esteco 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is enticing with blackberry, smoky green pepper and spicy aromas on the nose. Full-bodied and vibrant with dried cranberry, blackberry, black currant, green pepper and smoky spice flavours on the palate. Tannins are fine and this Argentinean Cab Sauv. finishes with food-friendly acidity. pair with grilled pork chops. - Community Wine Reviews
