Founders Daniel and Margaret Duckhorn have created quite a following for their Merlot-based wines since they first made them in the 1970s, as well as other classic Bordeaux grapes. Dry and delicious. Produced from mostly Merlot with 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot aged for 15 months in French oak.

Merlot food pairings: bison burgers, steaks, crown pork roast.

Reviews and Ratings

Carolyn Hetke rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Enticing notes of raspberry and violets on the nose here. Dark fruits and cherry on the palate. Rich and supple and smooth. A very satisfying pour, sure to have wide appeal. Pair with short ribs or duck. Tasted Nov 22, 2019 www.thewineloverskitchen.com
Linda Mertes WSET 2 rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

All the plum notes you expect with Merlot are evident in the Napa valley wine. Dark, dusty berries on the nose and palate with mild, licorice notes on the finish. This medium acidity and tannic structured Merlot will go well with any Cabernet Sauvignon food pairing due to its full body.
This is a plushy Merlot from Duckhorn. The 2016 is a lush and full-bodied Merlot red wine blend with some Cabernet Sauvignon, Franc and Petit Verdot. Dry, lush and luxurious with generous dark plum, blueberry, crushed raspberry and earthy violet flavours on the palate wrapped up in a smoky veil. Nicely done. Pair with grilled lamb chops. - Community Wine Reviews
