Reviews and Ratings

Victoria Clark Clark rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Very peppery! We loved this! Spicy and delicious!
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Great value wine! Full of cooked and ripe berry aromas with a slight oak undertone. Pepper complements the rich berry flavours nicely. Less tannin than anticipated. Smooth and full of flavours. Great with burgers or a steak.
Jane LeFresne reviewed this wine as follows:

Why I Tried this Wine: I always think Zinfandel and California together on a label mean expensive. However, after reading an article by Rod Phillips, I was surprised that a California Zinfandel was priced at $13.95 and given a rave review. It has also been listed by Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator as a best valued wine.

Tasting Notes: very light, clear purple colour.

Aromas of cooked raspberry, blackberry and plum, what some describe as jammy. Hints of sweet smoke, baking spices and tobacco.

Flavours of jammy raspberry, sweet smoke and caramel.

This is a smooth, medium bodied red wine with low tannins and medium acidity.

The finish is short with flavours of cooked fruit.

Food pairing: red meat dishes, hamburgers and hardy meat stews

Would I Buy This Wine Again: Yes. This is going to be a staple in my wine cellar. It’s an easy drinking red wine, perfect for those just starting to discover reds. Very impressive for a California Zinfandel at this price point.
