From Juanico in Uruguay, Don Pascual 2018 Tannat is excellent value under $15. Look for dark berry, plum, earthy herbs, smoky and spicy flavours on this vibrant full-bodied red with a lingering briny mineral finish. Pour with smoked and slow-braised red meats.

Tannat food pairings: venison steaks, bison burgers, grilled Tomahawk steak.

Craig Haynes - WSET3 FWS SWS IWS rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

2018 Don Pascual Coastal Tannat – Uruguay – 89 pts
Tannat is the one of most planted wine grapes in Uruguay. For me, the 2018 Don Pascual Coastal’s expression of this grape showcases compact aromas – think floral, herbs, earth, oak, and black berries – and juicy flavours. For me, they evoke ripe dark berries teamed up with a pleasing, light herbaceous character.

Medium bodied, this Uruguayan red feels velvety, lean and extra dry. It has food friendly elevated acidity and approachable, no need to tame with protein tannins. Enjoy.
