Beautifully rich and full-bodied yet balanced and nervy with a lovely seam of lively acidity. Aromas of freshly baked and buttered bread and golden apple. Pair with roast chicken. Produced by the third generation of the De Wet family. Vines are planted in heavy clay soils rich in limestone nestled on an ancient riverbed cooled by southerly maritime breezes in summer. The wine is matured for 5-6 months on the lees to add richness and creaminess.

Chardonnay food pairings: steamed lobster with melted butter, roast chicken stuffed with spinach and pepper jack, pasta in an Alfredo sauce, grilled seafood.

Reviews and Ratings

Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Apple and butter notes in the glass, a wonderfully balanced Chardonnay with intense flavors of apple, citrus, peach and a lovely minerality on the finish.
Greg Hughes rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This is an historic winery for the Roberson wine appellation of South Africa. This was the first registered winery, with traditions going back to 1694. It almost seems unfair to call them 'new world.'
Pale colour of lemon-green.
High alcohol and quite aromatic. Lots pf fresh dpugh, lemon rind, green apple, and rock dust.
This unwooded Chardonnay may have been aged in neutral vessels, but this wine still has great texture and body from extended lees aging.
Big boned, but fresh. Crisp acidity follows a palate built around citrus and orchard fruit. Soft pear and apple, lime amd lemon. Some vanilla and smokey lees on the finish.
Put this wine with a fresh garden or cobb salad.
This full-bodied Chardonnay from the Robertson wine region is unwooded. De Wetshof, Limestone Hill (2016) is buttery and rich, yes. But the wine is "sur lie" and fermented using wild yeasts. Very fresh and zesty, drink now and for the next couple of years. - Community Wine Reviews
