Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

This wine, fortified in strength, comes from a barrel solera started in 1954. This is one of Aureo's top wines. Only a small clutch of bottles are released every few years. This one is mostly Granatxa Blanca (Grenache Blanc) and Macabeo. It is dry and reductive, but the extended aging makes it resemble a dry Amontillado. The Macabeo/Granatxa blend instead of Palomino give it more fruitiness.
Medium amber in colour.
Aromas of toffee, maple sugar, pine resine, cabied nuts, lemon peel, and charcoal.
This wine is more sweetly fruited than any sort of comparison to Palo Cortado or Amontillado in this price category. It brings on candied apricot and pineapple, brine, caramel, woodsmoke, dried apple, and nutmeg.
There is a lot going on. This is a lot less common than it's extended family of Sherry. Try it if you are lucky enough to find any of this clutch. It should keep it's fruit for another decade.
This non-vintage Avreo Seco Anejo Sherry comes from a solera from 1954, and is a blended vintage, fortified wine. It is also a blend of Macabeo and Garnacha Blanca grapes that were fermented dry and fortified to 19% alcohol. - Community Wine Review.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
