Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Dark Horse Winery and Vineyards Pinot Noir 2017 is rich and spicy on the nose with dried cherry, red currant jam and dark chocolate aromas. Powerful, intense and vibrant with liquid cherry, ripe black raspberry, mocha-vanilla, pepper and soft baking spice flavours, finishing smooth and long with juicy dark cherry and stony mineral notes. Aged in French and American oak barrels for eight months.

Dark Horse Winemaker, Derek Kontkaren, has been with Arterra for over 20 years and Inniskillin Winery since 2014 on the Discovery Series wine project. Dark Horse Winery and Vineyards, 23 acres planted in Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon on the Golden Mile Bench’s alluvial fan, is his current wine venture.

He attributes the concentration and fullness of flavours in the wine to a portion of the PN grapes allowed to shrivel dry on the vine as well as a four-day cold soak. And, you can lose yourself in the deep ruby core of this wine; the concentration and fullness of berry flavours that flow over the mid-palate at the same time seem ethereal - a magical mouthfeel that leaves you wondering “how does he do that?”

Delicious on its own, but was a perfect match to roast grouse, sautéed wild mushrooms on a slip of red currant coulis. Tasted March 2020.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
