Natalie's Score: 87/100

A rustic and full-bodied Italian red wine with cherry liqueur nose, and deep, dark concentration of flavour on the palate. Powerful dark fruit flavours follow through on the finish. The 2012 vintage is robust with dark fruit and toasty oak. Good acidity and finish. Pair with grilled meats.

Aglianico Del Vulture food pairings: grilled meats, strong cheese, meat pizza.

Reviews and Ratings

Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

What a treat! Deep ruby colour with predominately secondary aromas. Stewed cherries, tobacco, leather, salty herbs, spinach, fennel and anise. Loads of smoke too! Flavours are abundant with tart grippy cherry, minerals, peach skins, anise and fresh tobacco. Also a touch of mushroom earthiness. Medium plus acidity, tannins body with a medium finish. This went perfectly with flank steak, cremini mushrooms and marinade reduction. Delicious!
From Italy's Basilicata wine region, D'Angelo (2012) is a rustic, full bodied red made with the Aglianico (del Vulture) red wine grape. Look for cherry liqueur ad cola flavours on this hardy red that is perfect pairing to rich meat or vegetarian stews. Drink now and for the next five years. - Community Wine Reviews
