Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España / Crianza / A rustic, tannic red wine with aromas of charred black fruit, toast, oak and smoke. Firm grip on the palate. Pair with hearty meat dishes. MINE: CVNE is an abbreviation for Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España. This is an historic wine company with some very bold and delicious wines from Rioja. This rich and robust red blend is mainly Tempranillo with a dash of Grenache and Mazuelo. Look for mushroom, ripe dark cherries, tobacco leaf and spicy flavours on the palate. Delicious now. OTHER: Greg Hughes rated this wine as 100/100 with the following review: CVNE stands for: Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España. This is an historic wine company with some very bold and delicious wines from Rioja. The reason to go after this little beauty is because it has tremendous value. This Crianza (pronounced cree-AN-that) is built mainly around Tempranillo with a dash of Grenache and Mazuelo. It has some rustic aromas to it, but it is all about the fruit you can coax out of this wine. When you first open it, it has loads of tobacco, loam, leaves, mushroom, cherry, and red licorice. After it breathes, some plum, mulberry, and coconut come out. On the palate it is aggressive, but that is just its youth showing through. Not many wines on the marlet are built like this guy. Built to withstand some aging. Most wines are built to be enjoyed right now. Especially from Spain, where wines can have had loads of cellar time already. Once it breathes, there is a lot more fresh fruit jumping out at you. Lots of cherry and mulberry. Plum, coffee, coconut on the finish. Buy a few, drink one now and tuck the rest away. This one would be fascinating to watch evolve. A great little Rioja with a lot of spunk. Drink it over the next 5-7 years. Put it with some lamb burgers or BBQ sausage. OTHER: Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: Gorgeous aromas and flavours of cherry jam, spice, tobacco, anise and Aussie red licorice. Plum skin and cocoa nib comes out on the finish. 90 Points. OTHER: Gold Medal winner at the 2018 Mundus Vini Spring Tasting. OTHER: Very pretty plum, cherry and hints of cedar. Medium body, with soft tannins and a delicious finish. Shows the real Rioja character. Delicious always. Drink now. Score - 92 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Aug. 2, 2018). - Community Wine Reviews
