From Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España, Cune Reserva 2017 is a dry, medium-plus-bodied red wine blend of 85% Tempranillo with 15% Garnacha Tinta, Graciano and Mazuelo sourced from the Rioja Alta wine region. On the palate, the wine is bright and fresh with dark berry, fresh plum and cedar spice flavours. Finishes savoury with well-integrated tannins. The wine was aged for 18 months in French and American oak barrels. Drink or hold. Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España was founded in 1879 but a misunderstanding about the 'V' written as a 'U' on the label of a wine bottle led to the Cune label.

Food pairings: smoked meats, burgers, ribs.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

A highly fragrant and beautiful example of Rioja, crafted from 85% Tempranillo and 15% Garnacha Tinta, Graciano and Mazuelo, with hand-picked grapes. Fermented in stainless steel, then aged for 2 years in American and French oak and cellared in the bottle for another minimum 2 years before release.
I loved the blackberry, tart cherry, orange peel, vanilla and sweet tobacco notes that washed over my tongue with a very satiny mouthfeel. A perfect pairing for our garlicky rosemary-crusted lamb chops. Drinking well now. Definitely a wine to buy again!
