Reviews and Ratings

Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Massal 1945 is a solid wine from Clos de Luz. Made from 100% Carmenere the king of grape in Chile, the 2016 shows lovely aromas of black plum, blackberry, white pepper, slate, sweet tobacco and sandalwood. Harvested in the Almahue region, the wine delivers a nice acidity, combined with supple tannins. Medium body with a smooth finish, the flavors evolve in cherry, plum, green peppercorn, earthy notes and cedar. Succulent wine. Enjoy!
Jenny Ratcliffe-Wright CWM rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

The fruit for this wine comes from vines planted in 1945, which still remain ungrafted. The wine was made with natural yeast and exhibits a fresh herbal note of capsicum and jalapeno peppers, ending in a burst of fresh red fruit. Refreshingly juicy and easy to drink. Try with pork meatballs with a mild curry sauce. @wrightwineblog
Linda Mertes WSET 2 rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

A smooth, well-balanced Chilean Carmemere that opens with fresh herbal and woody aromas. Savoury and fruity on the palate, with a hint of mint. Medium-bodied with a dry finish. Wild yeast was used in fermentation. Especially good with lamb dishes.
From the Rapel Valley wine region, Clos De Luz Massal 1945 2016 Carmenère is from a cool vintage, vibrant and juicy with dark cherry, blueberry, earthy and herbal flavours on the palate. Planted in 1945 in the Almahue zone, this vineyard is probably one of the oldest in Chile. - Community Wine Reviews
