Natalie's Score: 93/100

A blockbuster Washington Merlot from a strong vintage. Aromas of black cherry, spice and smoke. A splash of Syrah in this mostly Merlot wine adds a depth of black raspberry flavour and supple texture. Washington didn't suffer from the phylloxera root louse devastation so the vines are still planted on 100% vinifera rootstock and convey that typicity beautifully. Pair with grilled pork chops.

Merlot food pairings: grilled pork chops, pork tenderloin, sausage-stuffed Portobello mushrooms.

Reviews and Ratings

Carolyn Hetke rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Opaque garnet in the glass. This has a beautiful, complex nose of peppery, smoky plums and blackberries, eventually offering up a hint of mint. Fruit defines the palate with velvety tannins on the long finish. Nicely structured. Savour this with a tenderloin or lamb. Tasted June 2019. www.thewineloverskitchen.com

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Beautiful wine! Lots of black cherry, plum, and blueberry, with notes of violet, mocha and dried green herbs. Full bodied and smooth on the palate with some soft tannins and lots of ripe fruit on the finish with subtle herbaceous hints. Enjoy with grilled pork chops or slow braised beef ribs.
Daniel O'Keefe rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Great balance of fruit and oak. Jammy blackberry, blueberry, and cassis play with cocoa and oak spice. An extra kick of colour, tannin, and acidity from a small Syrah component also serves to slightly lighten the body and maintain freshness. Expertly crafted in that regard. This gem offers great value at $21.95 in Ontario. Pair with pork chops or tenderloin, but make sure you top it with blueberry compote for a mind-blowing match.
