A surprisingly great Bordeaux from a touch vintage. Balanced, complex, concentrated and offering a long finish. Black fruit, toasty oak and tar. There are several different product codes for the exact same wine in this release.

Reviews and Ratings

Neil Phillips rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

A wonderful Bordeaux, with nose of cassis, plum, toast, cedar, nutmeg, fig.

On the palate, the medium+ body holds acid and tannins and fruit all in check. A lot to chew, but the tannins are strong but nicely subdued at the same time. Dark fruits predominate (cassis, plum pudding), with added dried herbs, nutmeg, mushrooms.

Will happily age further.

Tasted October 2016.
Simon Chen rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Tasted @ Chateau Pontet Canet - Continuing our 10'-16' vertical, the 11' is a dry year. The wine lacks a bit of the fruit that links the entire flavor together. A bit hollow on the mid-palate but still has good tannin and finish.
This Bordeaux red wine blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes hails from the heart of the Medoc region of Pauillac on the Left Bank of the Gironde River. Owner Alfred Tesseron has put the 2011 vintage of the Pontet-Canet in an engraved bottle that has some heft weight-wise. This is a fifth growth (5e Cru) from the prestigious 1855 classification of Bordeaux wines. Produced by Alfred Tesseron et Héritiers G. Tesseron. Firm tannins and a great cellar candidate. - Community Wine Reviews
