Natalie's Score: 91/100

The 2014 vintage of the Chateau Pech Redon from southern France is a robust blend of 60% Syrah, 20% Grenache and 20% Carignan grapes. The wine was aged 18 months in a blend of large barrels (foudre) and stainless steel tanks before bottling. Band-Aid on the nose (I like this) along with fleshy ripe black plums and smoke. The vineyard is planted on the uppermost part of La Clape's hill facing the Mediterranean sea in the Languedoc region. The surrounding biodiversity of aromatic herbs, plants and trees influence the taste of the wine, according to the wine's back label. Pair with game dishes, duck confit and grilled lamb with rosemary. Decant 1 hour.

Food pairings: grilled flank steak, slow-braised ribs, roast chicken.

Reviews and Ratings

Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This full bodied Red is lovely, elegant and very floral. On the nose, there are dark berries, rose petals, cedar, eucalyptus leaves, and cigar box.

The tannins are structured on the palate with flavours of blueberries, cassis, espresso and just a touch of floral notes seeping through. Very enjoyable!

Tasted February 2018
Château Pech Redon L'épervier 2014 is a dry, full-bodied 60% Syrah, 20% Grenache and 20% Carignan red blend from La Clape, Coteaux Du Languedoc in the Midi. Look for ripe black and blue berries, the garrigue herbs for which the region is known, finishing with anise and sweet cake spice. Outstanding value for this sumptuous red. Pair with roast pheasant. - Community Wine Reviews
