Produced by Gaston Hochar, prop.-vitic., Bekaa Valley Chateau Musar 2013 (1500ml) is the family dinner version of this bold and fragrant Old World red wine blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan. Grapes are hand-harvested and quickly transferred to the cellar in Ghazir where fermentation takes place, followed by two to three weeks of maceration. Each varietal is aged in French oak barrels for one year. The 2013 was bottled in 2016 and released in 2020. Elegant on the nose with rose petals, ripe red berry fruit, blueberry, dried sweet tobacco leaf, mint, baking spices and wild herb flavours full, rich and concentrated on the palate. Tannins are firm and structured. Good now, but give it some more time to mellow out. Try in 2023.

Food pairings: venison filet mignon, roast partridge, pheasant, duck.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
