A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes. Look for ripe blackberry, dried tobacco leaf, dark spice flavours with a savoury smoky finish. Tannins are starting to smooth over.

Food pairings: grilled rib eye steak and sautéed wild mushrooms, mushroom and leek risotto, roast pheasant.

Reviews and Ratings

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Great balance in this wine, and I think it will continue to get better. Blended from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, aromas include black currant, plum, tobacco, leather and smoke. Full bodied with young tannins that smooth out after an hour or so of decanting. Acidity is bright, and fruit and berry notes are ripe on the palate. Smoke and leather hints carry through on the finish. Enjoy with a hearty beef stew.
Jenny Ratcliffe-Wright CWM rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

A slightly rustic, almost farmy character layered with a jammy red fruit. Attractive on the nose. Palate has blackberry notes with young tannins which will soften given time. Full bodied. Serve with slow roasted lamb shanks. @wrightwineblog
From the Côtes De Bordeaux wine region, Château Le Doyenné 2014 is a smoky, intense and broody Bordeaux produced mainly from Merlot with layers of dark plum, cherry, earthy fresh mushrooms, underbrush spice flavours on the palate. Beautiful now and for the next four years. - Community Wine Reviews
