Black as pitch on the nose (aromas), palate (flavours) and hue. Charry, tarry notes with blackened fruit and loads of oak. Layers of black fruit, dark spice and smoke. Some underbrush and garrigue along with black pepper on the finish. Decant 2 hours and pair with rare filet mignon.

Chateauneuf Du Pape food pairings: game, roast leg of lamb, rich meat lasagne.

Reviews and Ratings

Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Beautiful aromas! I am loving the intense and elegant plum, cherry berry and spice aromas. The palate is rich and mouthwatering with lovely concentrated berry fruit, allspice, leather, bitter dark chocolate and tobacco leaf. So yummy! Enjoy with balsamic glazed seared veal medallions. Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

There's a hint of purple in the rim of this CdP denoting it's relative youthfulness. Concentrated red and black fruit, tart cherry, sweet baking spices with some mature leather, licorice and toast. This is a wine that will reward the drinker in years to follow. Tannins are youthful but starting to round out. Enjoy CdP wines with braised or stewed red meats and game meats including venison and lamb. Can also pair with hearty pasta dishes and Asian cuisine. Full-bodied and approachable.

A towering wine of heroic proportions in its structure, depth, concentration and richness. Layers of black fruit, dark spice and smoke. Some underbrush and garrigue along with black pepper on the finish. Decant 2 hours and pair with rare filet mignon. Chateau la Nerthe is one of the most historic wineries in the Châteauneuf-di-Pape region, and the estate vineyards are planted with all 13 varieties allowed in the grape blend for this robust Rhone red wine. - Community Wine Reviews
