Reviews and Ratings

Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

This is an easily boastful wine - beautifully crafted and a great expression of Niagara VQA. Spicy, racy and smoky over juicy black fruit, cherry tarts. The colour is a deep ruby with purple hues. The palate is medium(-) body, medium(+) acidity with coffee grounds, earthiness and baking spices. I loved this wine. Even easier to sell at $17. This is a "buy a case" wine. Serve slightly chilled with crudite plate or start thinking Thanksgiving dinner.
Tasted: Sept 2015
Dan Trcka Wine Blogger rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

The 2012 Château des Charmes Gamay Noir ‘Droit’ sourced from the St. David’s Bench Vineyard, has elegant aromas of lightly earthy raspberry-cherry-blackberry fruit on both the nose and palate. It is a light to medium bodied, extra-dry, fruity wine; with refreshing acidity, soft tannins and a medium, smooth finish. It is a food friendly and sipping wine – the soft tannins allow it to pair well with cured meats (sausages, prosciutto, jamon iberico), drink from now to 2018-20 (cork enclosure). My impression: BEAUTIFUL, 90-91 pts - recommended for both its quality and value - do not hesitate to get several before they sell out. Tasted in Sep/15.

Martha Kelly AIWS - CS rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

From unique clone of the Gamay Noir grape, the Bosc family creates a uniquely rich and intense wine. As 2012 was an especially ripe vintage this wine displays flavours of dark cherry, ripe plum, and mixed berries with baking spices and an earthy complexity. The ripe tannins and medium-plus body make this an elegant experience from mouth-coating start to long finish.
Pair with your best from the grill, or enjoy on its own. Serve slightly chilled.
Great value!
Drink now, or keep until 2018.
Date tasted: August 2015.
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Platinum award winner at the 2015 National Wine Awards of Canada, this value priced Gamay Noir shows great fruit concentration with layers of herbs, spice, and charcoal on the finish. A great wine to enjoy with charcuterie or Thanksgiving meals. Serve slightly chilled and over the next two years. Tasted September 2015. 89 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
This Niagara winery makes this wine from Ontario's original plantings of the Gamay Noir Droit clone. Spicy black fruit and a full-bodied weight. - Community Wine Reviews
