A gorgeous Hungarian dessert wine that's not cloyingly sweet yet it's richly complex and concentrated. Honey heaven for angels with apricot wings. Pair with angel cake (or devil's food cake).

Tokaji Aszú food pairings: spice cake, crème brûlée, fruit-based desserts, pastries, fresh field berries in cream.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 95/100 with the following review:

The higher the # “Puttonyos”, the sweeter the wine and this one is a luscious beauty!
Highly aromatic with ripe pear, marzipan, crushed macademia nuts, honey and orange rind. Luscious palate gives layers of candied citrus fruit and nuts in a luxuriously satiny mouthfeel and lingering honeyed finish. Serve lightly chilled with foie gras, nuts, hard cheeses. Always a treat, unforgettable.
Tasted June 2017
From Hungary, Tokaj-Hegyalja Château Dereszla 5 Puttonyos (2009) is unctuous with apricot, peach, marmalade and citrus layers made from 70% Furmint, 30% Hárslevelu. The botrytis affected grapes for this wine give a flavour of honey spice and an incredible, lingering minerality and mouth-watering finish. - Community Wine Reviews
