A rich and intense red wine blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from Listrac-Médoc in the Bordeaux wine region. Look for ripe raspberry, blackberry and toasty oak flavours long on the palate. Needs some time in cellar -- three years to start showing its best. The estate has belonged to the Edmond de Rothschild family since 1973.

Food pairings: beef tenderloin, prime rib roast, stuffed saddle of rabbit.

Reviews and Ratings

Jenny Ratcliffe-Wright CWM rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

Incredible stylish, as per its pedigree, this blend of 70% Cab and 30% Merlot offers great value. Full flavoured on the palate with beef stock, smoked meat and freshly cut cedar and a touch of pine. The tannins are ripe but firm and the wine would benefit from decanting or some ageing in a cellar. Serve with a classic osso buco and creamy mash. @wrightwineblog
Greg Hughes rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

One of my favourite bargains in the Bordeaux aisle on a great vintage.

Ch. Clarke, a Listrac-Medoc Rotheschild estate with a simple 70% Merlot and 30% Cab blend, always impresses with its complexity and ageability.
It's a perfect example of an historical wine that has become increasingly modern.
Like many Bordeaux houses, they employ much of the high technology we associate with newer more dynamic regions. In its flavour profile we also see a new world bent towards the ultraripe; somewhat North American in appeal.
Lovely deep ruby/garnet colour, with classic varietal aromatics of rosehip or briar, bramble, cherry, chocolate, charcoal, and coffee.
Lots of new oak lends itself to the aromatics. Much more chocolate and smokiness. It doessn't tamp down the cherry amd dark berry, however. It strikes a nice balance. Lovely tannins and a superb finish.
A good choice for a Christmas/host gift. It'll provide enjoyment now and throughout the next decade.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Lovely young Bordeaux, this wine has aromas of rasberry and currant, with hints of eucalyptus, smoke and spice. Full bodied, with young, grippy tannins, and medium+ acidity on the palate. Definitely needs an hour or so to decant and smooth out the tannins. Fruit on the palate has a lot of dark berry notes, and a robust, smoky finish. Enjoy with braised beef short ribs.
From Baron Edmond de Rothschild, prop., Chateau Clarke 2015 is a spectacular red wine blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, fragrant with pink florals, raspberries and flinty aromas. Juicy and intense with bright raspberry, red currant, cherry, savoury herb and smoky flavours on the palate matched with great acidity for food. Tannins are grippy. Needs some time in cellar - three to five years to begin to show its best. - Community Wine Reviews
