Reviews and Ratings

Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This is made from Prugnolo Gentile (90%) which is a clone of the Sangiovese grape that's native to the Montepulciano region - and a small amount of Canaiolo (10%) in this blend. Medium bright red ruby colour with a shining glistening garnet hue. A flavoursome Italian classic. Cherries, pomegranates, vanilla, cinnamon and roses. Aged cigar box and tobacco leaves. Flavours are mouthwatering. Tart red fruit, pink peony petals and intricately integrated plush leathery tannins. High acidity with a medium body and finish. Pair with prosciutto and veal. 90 points - tasted December 2018
Castellani Filicheto 2013 is a well-priced Nobile Di Montepulciano red wine blend of 90% Prugnolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and 10% Canaiolo from the Tuscany wine region. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano was named the "king of wines" in 1685, and had "noble" incorporated into its name in the late 18th century. This dark cherry, earthy and smoky, full-bodied red was matured for two years in oak casks. Drink now and for the next five years with one of your favourite rich meaty pasta and tomato sauce dishes. - Community Wine Reviews

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
