The 2014 vintage of Colección is a robust blend of 70% Monastrell and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Aromas of tart black fruit and lots of oak. Indigenous yeasts were used for fermentation. The wine was aged in oak barrels for 10 months. A bitter finish. Pair with prime rib.

Food pairings: lamb roast, grilled sirloin tri-tip steak, meatlover's pizza.

Reviews and Ratings

Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Located in the South-Eastern part of Spain, the city of Yecla houses one of the oldest wineries in Spain: Familia Castano; a family driven winery. Created from old vines, the Cepas Viejas Castano Coleccion 2014 offers rich aromas of dark fruit. Made from 70% Monastrel (commonly named Mourvedre in Spain) and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine shows aromas of blackberry, black olive, black pepper, mocha, tobacco and oak. Full-bodied, this Spaniard delivers an agile balance and a well staged long finish. On the palate, the combination of Monastrel and Cabernet Sauvignon shows ripe blackberry, black pepper, cocoa, sweet tobacco, roasted meat and oak. Enjoy!
Castaño Colección 2014 is a well-priced, dry and medium-plus-bodied red blend of 70% Monastrell with the balance in Cabernet Sauvignon from the Yecla wine region in Spain, Fermentation was done with yeasts indigenous to the area and the wine was matured in oak barrel for almost a year. Ripe dark fruit and blackberry flavours and well-integrated toasty oak on the palate. Drink now with grilled gourmet burgers with all the fixings. - Community Wine Reviews
