Leading on the nose are ripe aromas of blackberry, black cherry, and plum, closely pursued by cocoa and a little smoke. This offering dials in on the fruit while maintaining a similar structural style to other quality offerings, namely a full body, robust tannins, and integrated acidity. Barrel aging shows nicely on the palate, adding more cocoa and smoke to the dark fruit medley that transitions into the finish. A bold and elegant offering with at least another half decade of prime drinking ahead. Enjoy with red meats, especially off the grill.

There is something rich yet elegant about this medium body Shiraz with flavours of mocha, spice and red fruit. It is well balanced with a fresh acidity on the finish and almost tastes closer to a Southern France Syrah as opposed to an Australian Shiraz. The texture is round and rich with ripe raspberries, but also an earthiness with wood characteristics due to a 12 month aging period in French and American oak barrels. A good wine for the price.

Cape Barren's Native Goose 2016 is a deep, dark red Shiraz with earthy, flinty and pepper spice aromas on the nose. Dry, with rich ripe cherry, black raspberry, cola and cocoa flavours on the palate. Youthful with a flinty, spicy finish. - Community Wine Reviews
