From the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Burrowing Owl 2018 Cabernet Franc is a dry, juicy and fruit-driven full-bodied Cab Franc fragrant with spiced plum, cassis, blueberry, coffee, chocolate, savoury herb and toasty oak spice flavours finishing with a kiss of vanilla plushy on the palate. Tannins are firm and fine. Good now, better in a year of so when it begins to marry and mellow. The wine was fermented and aged in a mix of 60% French, 25% Hungarian and 15% American oak barrels for over 18 months.

Cabernet Franc food pairings: tomato braised meat dishes including Osso Bucco or braised lamb shanks with a black olive wine sauce.

Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Burrowing Owl 2018 Cabernet Franc is a great expression of premium Okanagan Cab Franc. Deep colour, the nose is fresh with sweet dark berries, kirsch, and herbal notes. The palate shows layers of dark fruit with savoury elements, including pepper, graphite, underbrush and earthy notes. Enjoy this wine over the next five years with roasts and mushroom risotto. Tasted November 2022. 92 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Lovely and bright Cabernet Franc with aromas of bright cherry, plum, and cassis, along with hints of coffee and campfire smoke. Full bodied, with bright acidity, fine tannins, and vibrant fruit notes mingled with hints of mocha, evergreen, and smoky spice. Enjoy with any mushroom dishes.
