Lots of mocha and chocolate on the nose of this robust, smooth Californian red wine from oak aging. Made from the Petit Sirah grape. This wine is named in honour of the pioneering spirit of the American west. Count Agoston Haraszthy founded Buena Vista Winey in 1857. Aromas of fleshy ripe plums and dark berries.

Petite Sirah food pairings: grilled meats on the BBQ, bison burgers, grilled vegetables.

Reviews and Ratings

Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

An homage to winemaking pioneer - Count Agoston Haraszthy. Note the alligator which is a nod to the story. Wow! Decanted for 2 hours - A big, multilayered complex Petite Syrah from Buena Vista Winery. Deep, dark and delightful. The Legendary Badge shows a cacophony of aromas with the bouquet unveiling elements of stewed plums, black cherries, strawberry jam, toasted coconut spice and a hint of eucalyptus. Flavours repeat these with an awesome toast and jam spread sweet fruit texture lingering throughout with chutney, licorice and dark chocolate. High acidity balances nicely against the voluptuous full body, offering a fleshy mouthfeel with concentrated, robust tannins. An absolute must with heavy meats, coffee rubbed roasts and a cigar. 91 points
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 86/100 with the following review:

Juicy red and black field berries, floral notes. Fruit forward, juicy with low tannins, low acidity. Built for those who enjoy an off dry red fruit dominant juicy wine. Tasted 2016 vintage in Feb 2018. 86 points
From Buena Vista Winery, established in 1857, The Legendary Badge (2016) is a tip of the hat to Agoston Haraszthy who was the Sheriff of San Diego County in 1850 before me moved on to Sonoma County to become winery owner and wine maker. Look for ripe plums, dark berries and smoky fruit on this full-bodied Petite Sirah. Pair with roast or grilled meats. - Community Wine Reviews
