Brotte Domaine Barville 2017 Châteauneuf du Pape is a medium-bodied, lushly layered CNDP produced from mostly Grenache with Syrah and Mourvèdre in support from vines averaging 35 years of age. Smooth and rich with ripe black cherry, dried wild herbs, smoky and spicy on the palate. Tannins are fine-grained and the wine is very approachable now. Drink or Hold. Charles Brotte chose a coat-of-arms based on a typical shield which is adorned with a knight and three roses highlighting the three powers of terroir: earth, climate and the influence of man.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape food pairings: rich stews, osso Bucco, roast chicken.

Reviews and Ratings

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

This wine is robust and earthy with aromas of dark cherry, plum, graphite, dried herbs, and woodsmoke. Full bodied, with dry, grippy tannins and bright acidity on the palate. Fruit notes include ripe cherry, strawberry and plum flavours on the palate as well more herbaceous notes on a lengthy, drying finish. Enjoy with roasted leg of lamb.
