From the Campo De Borja wine region, Borsao Berola 2017 is a spicy, smoky, full-bodied 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah red wine blend with bright red berry, blueberry, plum, candied cherry, baking spices and well-integrated smoky toasty oak spice flavours supple on the palate. Tannins are velvety and rounded. The wine is aged in French and American oak barrels. Pour with a Porchetta roast. Berola is the original name for the 12th century monastery of Veruela when the land was first granted to Cistercian monks to tend and plant as vineyards. Established in 1958, Bodegas Borsao has grown to include three co-ops with some 620 wine growers who cultivate over 2,430 hectares of vines.

Food pairings: lamb shanks in red wine and roasted garlic, grilled lamb lollipops, stuffed lamb tenderloin.

Reviews and Ratings

Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Amazing everyday wine, the Borsao Berola from Spain shows a constant pattern of great wine making. If you’re an amateur of Spanish wine, this wine is for you. The 2017 reveals aromas of cherry, dried strawberry, black pepper, leather and dark chocolate. Made from Grenache and a touch of Syrah, the wine delivers a full body, charming texture and polished tannin. The finish provides suave acidity and a velvety coating. Palate: roasted plum, cherry, lavender, leather and pie crust. Enjoy!
