Smoky oak with tasty dark chocolate and black plum aromas and flavours. Fairly smooth though decanting for 2 hours will help. A towering merlot of great depth and structure from one of Napa's flagship producers. Soul soothing and heart quickening.

Merlot food pairings: beef stew, prime rib, lamb cutlets, coq au vin, pot roast.

Reviews and Ratings

Darlene Myers - CAPS Student rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

I love a good Merlot, and this one was fabulous. Full bodied with gorgeous flavors of smoky plums, blackberries and toasty spices. Nice rounded finish and big enough to stand up to beef, and paired very nicely with the pork I had with it. I will definitely buy this wine again
Community Reviewer reviewed this wine as follows:

Black cherry, blueberry and cocoa mint aromas blend with fruit forward flavors of black cherry and plum on the palate creating a Merlot that is very satisfying from the moment you pick up the glass. Hints of cocoa, brown spice, toffee and vanilla bean mingle with the concentrated berry flavors and ripe tannins that extend throughout the long finish.

This opaque and dark ruby colored Merlot was one of our top finishers in our recent blind tasting. It opens with a pleasant boysenberry bouquet with a hint of black cherry, menthol and oak. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced, dense and a bit rustic for a Merlot. The flavor profile is a concentrated blackberry with notes of oak. We also detected a hint of black raspberry and black pepper. The finish is dry and its moderate dusty tannins are slightly prolonged. Very good+. Score – 90.
