Fantastic value on this Barbera D'alba from the Piedmont wine region. Beni di Batasiolo has nine estate vineyards surrounding the original winery in a circular pattern. The grapes for Sovrana – or ‘sovereign’ – are fermented with maceration on the skins for 10-15 days. The wine is then aged in oak for about 12-15 months. After bottling, the wine is aged for a further 8-10 months before release. The result is a rich, concentrated and brooding wine with layers of blueberries, blackberries, licorice, cigar box, dark spices orange zest and mocha.

Barbera d'Alba food pairings: veal parmigiana, lamb shanks, lamb kebabs, mushroom risotto.
