Sweet cherry-berry aromas and flavours on the palate. Vanilla oak spice, smoke and raspberry compote and preserves on the finish. Full-bodied Californian Pinot Noir. This is one of four single vineyard wines from this winery and considered the most robust of all four. Gotta love that red melted wax seal: makes a great gift package. Pair with grilled chicken. Lots of mocha and dark chocolate and caramel on the finish from oak aging.

Pinot Noir food pairings: pork, beef Carpaccio, mushroom and leek risotto.

Reviews and Ratings

Tania Thomas - CSW, WSET ADV rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Full-bodied, fruit forward Pinot Noir from the vineyards planted on one of the highest sites in California’s Monterey County. Cooled by the fresh costal air and warmed by consistent sunshine, it makes for perfect pinot growing conditions. Rich, dark and concentrated, it’s bursting with black cherry and ripe plum flavours with a touch of earth and spice. Tannins are soft, ripe and well integrated. Closes in a lingering, cocoa-hued finish. Pair with wild mushroom risotto and meat roasts. Tasted April 2017. Tania Thomas – www.runawaygrape.com

Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

This wine pours with a very attractive deep ruby appearance and huge billowing aromas of raspberry coulis, sweet baking spice (allspice and nutmeg, and anise). This is not your typical high acid earthy balanced Pinot. The acidity too moderate for my preference and the body is wicked, throwing off the balance of the wine. Tasted Dec 2016 - @sommosa | bespoketastings.ca
Produced by Joseph J. Wagner, the 2014 Las Alturas Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir is rich with juicy blueberry and black raspberry fruit, full and savoury. Excellent PN from this well-known producer. - Community Wine Reviews
