Natalie's Score: 88/100

From the Tuscany wine region, Basilica Cafaggio is a great value, single estate Chianti Classico under $20. Produced from 100% Sangiovese, there is beautiful acidity for food on this wine with vibrant blackberry, dark cherry, earthy and smoky flavours and a savoury finish. Decant one hour prior to pouring with your favourite meat pasta and rich tomato sauce dish. The wine was matured 12 months in Slavonian oak barrels.

Chianti Classico food pairings: pasta and rich tomato sauce, cheesy pizza, meat lasagne.

Reviews and Ratings

Trent Mayers rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This single estate Chianti Classico made with 100% Sangiovese is a perfect food wine. This very dry wine is bigger bodied than most of its brethren presenting dark fruit, cherry, red currant jam, wood tinged vanilla, black olive, and licorice finishing with some tannic grip and wonderful acidity. It’s a wine capable of aging at least another 4-5 years. An excellent wine that would complement Tuscan style steak grilled with garlic then finished with a drizzle of good olive oil, a sprinkle of sea salt, and a squeeze of lemon or your pasta with a rich Ragu.
