From the Western Cape, Robertson wine region, Barista 2020 Pinotage is a full-bodied South African red wine fragrant with coffee espresso on the nose and palate from the toasty oak aging. Robust and full on the palate with dark fruit, espresso, dark chocolate and smoky toasty oak spice flavours. Perfect for smoked meats and cheeses. The winery is Certified for Integrity & Sustainability by the South African Wine and Spirit Board. Winemaker Bertus Fourie, who holds degrees in microbiology, chemistry and oenology, is nicknamed "Starbucks" for his role in shaping the so-called "coffee Pinotage" style.

Pinotage food pairings: blackened lamb burgers, smoked cheese, braised beef in a Porter reduction.

Reviews and Ratings

Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This lovely Pinotage hails from Western Cape, South Africa. The Western Cape is known for its wine production and vineyards. Western Cape climate is typically Mediterranean, with warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters. This particular wine is "named after the coffee machine and the attendant who brews and dispenses espresso and lattes"! If you like coffee, you'll love this wine! Winemaker legend Bertus Fourie has earned the name "Starbucks" showcasing his incredible talent in crafting this coffee-flavored Pinotage. Intense flavors of freshly dark roast coffee, rich dark chocolate and the deep, dark fruit - plum, mulberry and cherry. This wine is beautifully balanced with added layers of smoke, tobacco, earth and a hint of crispy bacon. Long, exquisite finish. Delicious!
