Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Precise and well-crafted, winemaker, Wes Johnson’s winemaking knowledge and talent shines through in Baillie Grohman Estate Winery’s 2018 Récolte Blanche (“White Harvest”) Pinot Gris, Schoenburger, Kerner and Gewürztraminer white wine blend. The wine is ultra-balanced and zesty with clean and concentrated ripe pear, stone-fruit, citrus florals, soft lychee and dried pineapple flavours rich, weighty and luxuriously long on the palate. Off-dry (18.25 residual sugar), the sweetness is more of a mirage between the rich fruit flavours matched with vibrant and focussed acidity.

Wes Johnson took over as winemaker at Baillie-Grohman Estate Winery in December 2014, upon completing his Bachelor of Science degree in Oenology from EIT in Hawkes Bay. This was a natural progression for him since he had worked in the winery’s vineyards since 2007 and in the winery in 2009.

Récolte Blanche 2018 was awarded Best of Varietal in the 2019 British Columbia Best of Varietals Awards.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
