Natalie's Score: 88/100

This small batch Californian red wine blend was aged in whiskey barrels for 60 days. This lends this wine aromas and flavours of smoke, toast, spice, brown sugar and toffee. Full-bodied. The wine is aged in bourbon barrels rather than the oak usually used to age wine from France, Hungary or the US (but not bourbon oak). The bourbon oak staves (panels or strips of wood) impart a maple spice finish. This clocks in at a hefty 16% alcohol. Pair with hamburgers with relish.

Reviews and Ratings

Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Bourbon lover meets full bodied Cali red aficionado. Wow. Interesting experiment in New world wine design. Maple smoke, ripe strawberry, blackberry, savoury. Full bodied. Uniquely Intense on the palate with medium soft maple toffee and blackberry finish. Pair with BBQ bourbon ribs, spicy wings, gourmet burgers. Enjoyable on its own with a campfire and great company. Great job on the bourbon barrel aging. Whiskey lovers may find this wine interesting to try. I did. Tasted 2015 vintage in April 2018. 90 points.
