Huge juicy purple plum and blueberry aromas and flavours in this supple, smooth, full-bodied Italian red wine. Primitivo is also known as Zinfandel in California. Finishes with baked blueberry pie and dark spice. Perfect for grilled meats and barbecue.

Primitivo food pairings: osso buco, grilled hamburgers, aged cheeses, venison stew.

Reviews and Ratings

Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This wonderful 2011 vintage of 100% organic Primitivo from Amastuola is produced in Puglia IGP. At 14?V this wine is deeply concentrated, highly aromatic and well integrated at only 4 years maturity. The fruit yields from the Amastuola garden vineyard situated on a unique plateau at an altitude of 210 meters (690ft) above sea level and the winemakers have employed traditional vinification methods dating back to the Magna Graecia (Ancient Greek) era. The wine is dark garnet with a ruby hue and loaded with dense plum, ripe raspberry, ripe blackberry, ripe blueberry, anise, thyme, vanilla and a hint of leather. Juicy with flavours, this wine is balanced with medium acidity and medium tannins, offering a great sipping wine with its complexity and a perfect pairing with thin crust pizza with fig, baked pear and goats cheese, or fig, roasted tomato and prosciutto appetizers on garlic crustini. This wine is designed for enjoyment by Zinfandel lovers. This wine will please many including those who appreciate the boldness of Cali Zin, the elegance of Italy and the vinification traditions of the ancient Greeks. Enjoy 2015-2018.
This Italian red wine is somewhat reduced on the nose and finish. The vines for this wine are planted on a plateau at 210 metres above sea level and have a Mediterranean climate. They are farmed organically. - Community Wine Reviews
