This big-bones Greek red wine offers plenty of drinking pleasure. The Alphas Estate is the winery's flagship wine and the blend of red grapes comes from the estate's best vineyards that are mostly alluvium, sandy, clay soils with excellent drainage and a semi-continental climate which results in deep concentration and depth in the wine. The French oak barrels for aging were of medium toast and fine grain. This wine was unfiltered and has all the good stuffing left in it.

Food pairings: grilled steaks, slow-cooked beef, osso buco.

Reviews and Ratings

Alpha Estate S.M.X. (2013) is a full-bodied red wine blend of Syrah, Xinomavro and Merlot from the Florina wine region in Greece. The Alphas Estate is the winery's flagship wine and the blend of red grapes comes from the estate's best vineyards. The complete blend was aged French oak barrels and the wine is unfiltered. This is a very powerful red with great acidity and structure. Needs a bit of time in cellar to develop. Give it three to five years and pair this very promising red with game dishes. - Community Wine Reviews
