For Argentina’s signature grape, Catena’s Alamos Malbec is always a fine ambassador. A rich, full-bodied wine with concentrated fruit flavours of raspberry and cassis with doses of chocolate and sweet spice from the light oak ageing. A pleasant sipper with lovely blackberry aromas. Medium- to full-bodied and smooth. A solidly made wine with terrific balance. Ripe blackberries and pepper. Perfect for barbecue and movie night.

Malbec food pairings: bleu cheese and pecan salad, lasagna.

Reviews and Ratings

Alexandre Craig DWS, FWS rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This goes to show that the best producers make quality wines at all price points. Terrific value.

Abundant dark cherry, black plum, blackcurrant leaf and sweet vanilla aromas are coupled with a rich mouthfeel and round tannins. Very typical of a good-quality Malbec. Long dark fruit and vanilla finish.
This is a lush, rich red that went perfectly with a salad that we whipped up for a light dinner on a Saturday night. A wine to savour, very full bodied and full of dark fruit flavours. Score: 4 (out of 5) Source: Bob Kellagher, phillyburbs.com
