Natalie's Score: 90/100

A medium-bodied, dry and delicious Columbia Valley Chardonnay with ripe pear and floral aromas. Smooth and rich on the palate with ripe red apple and pear fruit, toasty coconut and toffee flavours from oak treatment. Oak is well-integrated. Acidity is balanced and love the lemon pudding finish on this creamy Chard. Pair with Butternut squash risotto.

Chardonnay food pairings: buttered lobster roll, roast chicken, sautéed filet of haddock.

Reviews and Ratings

Somm4All WSET 3 rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

The name “14 Hands” is an homage to the herds of wild equine that used to roam Washington state and how their height was measured. When it comes to producing quality wine however, these folks do not horse around. Using Washington’s most planted white varietal, Chardonnay, they produce an expression that is juicy & fruit forward due to both the terroir of the state, and the inclusion of 2% white Rhone varietals (Rousanne, Marsanne & Viognier). Aroma’s of pear, apple, lime, toasty smoke, butter, vanilla and white pepper abound, with flavours matching aromatics alongside some floral, butterscotch and soft spice. Lime, butter & popcorn prance along the medium finish. Well balanced, slightly off-dry and medium bodied there remains a keen sense of freshness throughout. A Chardonnay worth saddling up and hitting the dusty trail to find. Enjoy with roasted chicken and boiled buttery new potatoes.
A gorgeous, creamy, fruity and buttery Chardonnay from the Horse Heaven Hills wine region in Washington, 14 Hands is so named for the wild horses that once roamed the Hose Heaven Hills wine region. They were approximately 14 hands tall: small but sturdy and strong. Pair with a veal Porterhouse. - Community Wine Reviews
