Lovely toasty oak aging that's integrated with the fleshy blackberry notes on this medium-bodied Niagara red wine. Mocha and espresso smoke wrap around a black fruit core. This is a very full-bodied style of Gamay Noir and I really like it. Finishes long and smooth. Pair with grilled seafood.

Gamay Noir food pairings: grilled salmon, antipasto plate, meaty tomato based pasta, roasted turkey.

Reviews and Ratings

Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Recent marketing in the wine industry has promoted the merits of growing Gamay in Ontario where we are similar in climate to it's native habitat of Burgundy(Beaujolais), France. Like Pinot Noir this varietal produces light, food friendly red wine and prefers the cooler temperatures of the Continental climate. This 13th Street Gamay Noir is a pretty medium ruby colour with nice earthiness and herbal notes. Stewed and jammy fruit is secondary with a lift of smoke. The palate is smooth and the acidity is refreshing. A very nice medium-bodied Gamay. Serve slightly chilled. Winemaker suggested pairing: rabbit stew. I'll stick to poultry dishes. Turkey with cranberry stuffing.

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Gamay is a super food friendly wine and it’s ideally suited for spring and summer dining, outside, even in the heat of the summer! Served slightly chilled, it’s great with charcuterie, seared tuna, and puts smiles on faces when served with BBQ grilled burgers. As it happens, Ontario is one of the top producers of world-class Gamay (second only to the French wine region Beaujolais where they produce exclusively Gamay), so we’ve got some great Gamay wines to choose from right here in Ontario. 13th Street Winery’s Gamay Noir, and their premium Sandstone Vineyard Gamay Noir, are terrific options to pour, chilled, this spring and summer.

13th Street Winery's 2013 Gamay Noir is a medium ruby red colour with an impressively robust nose of dark berries, bell pepper, earth and spice. Very versatile, this food-friendly medium bodied red shows best when served just slightly chilled and paired with rich artisanal sausage and Octoberfest fare. This wine won a prestigious Platinum Wine Award at the 2015 National Wine Awards of Canada. Tasted September 2015. 89 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Daniel O'Keefe rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Leads with a hint of oak before relaxing and expressing dried black cherry, dried cranberry, briar, and pepper. Palate delivers berry crumble, a touch of nutty character, a hint of mineral, and a suggestion of tomato leaf on the finish. Richly textured with softening tannins, but the acidity is still firm and fresh after five years. It took some coaxing to get expression from this wine, but once it emerged, it was delicate, finessed, and impressive. Save this for a turkey dinner or coq au vin.
Emilie Ryan rated this wine as 82/100 with the following review:

A Gamay that expresses different parts of itself depending on the pairing…
Presentation: Clean, simple, with a touch of sophistication
Appearance: Light-medium ruby red
Nose: Red berries, nutmeg, wood, leather, earth, rhubarb
Taste: Sour berries, earth, leather, light black pepper, with a degree of tartness
Finish: Earth, sour berries
Overall impression: A nice, light Gamay. I had it with chicken Kiev cooked on the BBQ with grilled pineapple and salad, as well as strawberry-rhubarb crumble and some dark chocolate. It paired best with the chicken the dark chocolate.
Value: 3/5
The Gamay grape vines for this medium-bodied Niagara red wine are planted in Sandstone, Schwenker and 13th Street's estate vineyard. 13th Street's winemaker, Jean-Pierre Colas, produces several gamay bottlings. - Community Wine Reviews
