Sur de los Andes Reserva Malbec 2010, Mendoza, Argentina: Rich and full-bodied with an incredible price point. Layers of fleshy dark fruit cry out coffee grounds cry out for a meaty dish companion. Finishes with blackberry and black plum notes. Terrific!  Hidden among the rich black fruit flavour in this powerful wine are fleeting notes of violets to create an intriguing bouquet. Veuve Clicquot Demi Sec Champagne, Champagne, Reims, France: Barbe-Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin was just 27 when her husband died of a malignant fever leaving her with the winery and an eight-year-old daughter in 1805. Her aggressive export strategy to Russia during the Napoleonic wars earned her the top spot in that market for decades. Riondo Il Cuore Per Martina Appassimento 2012, Veneto I.G.T., Italy: Full-bodied, round and supple with tart purple plums flavours. The merlot and native Corvina grapes that comprise this wine were dried under controlled condition for 20-25 days in the Verona region. Aromas of dark fruit . Nice for the price. Cline Cellars Ancient Vines Zinfandel 2012, Contra Costa County, California, United States: Cline's Zinfandel grapes are sourced from dry-farmed vines planted more than 100 years ago, thus deserving the name Ancient Vines. The depth and concentration of that aging vine wisdom shows in the glass. Notes of blackberry and toasty, black fruit, tar, smoke and toasty oak. Full-bodied. Perfect for BBQ meats and a campfire.
