Tessellae Old Vines Côtes Du Roussillon Domaine Lafage Carignan 2011, A.P., Midi, France: Fresh, full-bodied and invigorating: those adjectives don't usually go together but in this wine they blend beautifully. Although the alcohol is high, this full-bodied wine is nimble on its feet and tastes balanced and just right. Tres Picos Borsao Garnacha 2011, D.O., Campo De Borja, Spain: Some mocha and chocolate on the nose is quickly flooded with lusciously ripe black fruit on the palate. Full-bodied and smooth. This winery is located south of Rioja and is comprised of 100% Garnacha grapes. The wine itself was matured in 50/50 stainless steel and French barrels. A long, satisfying finish. Cerro Añon Gran Reserva Olarra 2005, D.O.C.A., Rioja, Spain: Savoury and meaty with juicy, mouth-watering fleshy black fruit. Nicely put together. There's a lovely dark weave of smoke, spice and black fruit on the finish. It'll do well in the cellar, but can also be enjoyed tonight with grilled steak.
