Mitolo Jester Shiraz 2012, South Australia, Australia: Bacon and campfire smoke on the nose of this big Australian red wine from oak aging. It's made from the country's flagship red wine grape Shiraz. Richard Tarlan was a favourite among the jesters to the Queen Elizabeth I and was the first to achieve national celebrity status. Latium Morini Campo Leòn Amarone Della Valpolicella 2011, Veneto D.O.C., Italy: Holy smokes! I can smell the alcohol on this wine -- at 16.5% that's no surprise. Port, the fortified wine, clocks in at 19%. Nevertheless this is delicious with sweet black cherry flavours and a smooth texture. Perfect for roast beef.
