Jim Jim The Down-Underdog Shiraz 2014, Mclaren Vale, South Australia, Australia: A juicy, spicy and full-bodied Australian red wine made from the Shiraz grape and named in honour of the winery’s faithful dog, Jimmy. Lovely Aussie shiraz with black fruit, generous oak and full-bodied heft. Some mint and pepper on the finish. The Down-Underdog is the second-label Shiraz from Hugh Hamilton winery, and among a pack of playful per names such as “The Villain,” “The Scoundrel,” and “Jekyll & Hyde.” Pair with gourmet burgers. Casas del Bosque Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2014, Maipo Valley, Chile: A superb, rich, complex Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon made from vines grown in the Maipo Valley that are cropped for low yields at 3.6 tons per acre. This results in rich, deep flavour. After a 5-day maceration, the wine was put into a mixture of new and second-used French oak barrels for 14 months. Seven Falls Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon 2014, Wahluke Slope, Columbia Valley, Washington, United States: The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for this Washington State red came from Wahluke Slope. The Seven Falls name is in honour of the falls that flowed into the Columbia River. This is a superb Washington State Cabernet Sauvignon, with attractive aromas of fleshy black plum and mocha.
