Lindemans Gentleman's Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 2015, South Australia, Australia: A terrific, full-bodied Australian red wine made from the classic Cabernet Sauvignon grape. Aromas of cassis, black currant and wild blackberry. This is a special edition wine named in honour of Lindemans Winery founder Dr. Henry Lindeman, who in 1843, with his wife Eliza, planted the first vines in the Hunter Valley, just south of Sydney. I love the old-fashioned label that reminds me of a Victorian sepia toned catalogue featuring Uncle Bertram's Exlirir for What Ales Yee and corsets for the modern woman. Oscar's Shiraz Viognier 2016, Barossa Valley, South Australia, Australia: Oscar's full-bodied Shiraz-Viognier red wine blend is a whack of black raspberry, dark fleshy plum, spice and smoky Madagascar vanilla flavours on the palate. Intense, smooth and delicious from the Barossa Valley. The label features a photo of Oscar Zimmerman and his brother seated under an apple tree, which still stands today, after a hard day's picking in what is now the Semaphore Block vineyard. De Bortoli G.S. Pinot Noir 2018, Yarra Valley, Victoria, Australia: A silky and elegant Pinot Noir produced by De Bartoli in the Yarra Valley with grapes sourced from the Brookland Vineyard. Layered with dark cherry, red berry, raspberry and savoury herb flavours on the palate. GS is for "Gulf Station" and was the original pastoral holding of the Bell family who settled in the Yarra Valley in 1864. The site of today's De Bortoli vineyard was known as "the summer paddock". Gerard Bertrand Grand Terroir Tautavel Grenache Syrah Carignan 2013, Côtes Du Roussillon-Villages, Midi, Languedoc A.C., France: Fleshy dark fruit, pepper and cedar forest plus on the nose of this fabulous southern French red wine. Full-bodied and fairly smooth but it will help to decant 2 hours. Terrific price for this savoury, mouth-watering red that will pair perfectly with grilled meats. Borsao Berola Garnacha Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon 2012, Campo De Borja D.O., Spain: Savoury, meaty fleshy ripe black fruit. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 14 months. Chocolate, mocha and espresso on the nose and palate from generous oak aging and a firm tannic grip on the palate. Berola is the original name of the Monastery of Veruela dating back to the 12th century and was run by the Cistercian monks. This Spanish red wine is a blend of mostly Garnacha (Grenache), with some Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks. Pair with lamb in rosemary.
